The story behind the look

Williams’s 2000 US Open dress placed a purple-pink tie-dye spiral across slightly sheer black fabric. A scoop neckline and broad straps kept the upper shape simple, while a tied side slit opened the short skirt.

Puma’s design brought an expressive, streetwear-associated print to a competition dress. It predates her better-known black catsuit and shows how early experimentation became a recurring part of her on-court wardrobe.
