The story behind the look

Sharapova’s 2010 New York night dress used a collar to bring a tailored accent to a sleeveless performance silhouette. The deep-purple fabric and dark lapels give the upper body the suggestion of an evening waistcoat.

The night outfit was not simply the daytime dress recoloured. Contemporary launch coverage noted changes to the construction as well as the palette, including the removal of the daytime buttons and contrasting lower hem.
